Review Lesson: Starter units 1~3

Teaching objectives:

1. Most of students can classify 26 English letters according to their pronunciation.

2. Most of students can read phonetic symbols quickly.

3. Students are familiar with the following sentences: “What’s this/that in English?” “It’s +a/an + n.” “Spell it, please.” “What color is it?” “It’s + adj.(color)”.

Teaching key points:

Identify things and colors.

Teaching difficult points:

The classification of 26 English letters according to their pronunciation.

It’s +a/an + n. (the usage of a/an)

Teaching aids:

PPT,blackboard

Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Lead-in

Play a guessing game together and write 26 English letters from memory.

Say “Hi” to English letters.

“Hi/ Good morning/ Hello, XXX”

Step 2: Presentation & Practice

2.1 Review-abbreviations

Review abbreviations together.

2.2: Review-A E I O U

-in open syllables:  /eɪ/ /i:/ /aɪ/ /əʊ/ /ju:/

-in closed syllables: /æ/ /e/ /ɪ/ /ɒ/ /ʌ/

2.3 IPA

Speak out the missing IPA symbols and read them correctly.

2.4 Identify things

Review key words by pictures: map cup ruler pen orange jacket key quilt.

Practice the above key words in the following structure:

“What’s this/that in English?” “It’s +a/an + n.” “Spell it, please.” “C-U-P,cup”.

2.5 Identify colors

Review key words by pictures: red yellow green blue black white purple brown.

Practice the above key words in the following structure:

“What color is it?” “It’s + adj.(color)”

Step3: Production (Group work)

Students work in group of four and make a dialogue with the following structures.

“What’s this/that in English?”

“It’s +a/an + n.”

 “Spell it, please.”

 “What color is it?”

 “It’s + adj.(color)”.
